From what I can tell, adding friends involves recruiting them via a link, or going to an existing user's hero page and clicking "Yeah, this is my friend."
 
The former makes a good bit of sense--somebody who's registering through your recommendation is bound to be a friend, but that second one seems rather... Easy. Does that actually add the person to your friends list, allowing you to request batteries and...

...Actually, what else are friends for, other than keeping track of cool comrades and requesting batteries?

On here, it is strictly a forum thing. 

 

If you want to friend someone in game, simply go their page, (you can search for them on the ranking list) and click the little box that says "In Friend List".

I cannot find that link that says "In Friend List" on anyone's hero page.
I have loaded dozens. It's simply not there for me. Can anyone answer why?
I know where it's supposed to be located (under description),
The only things I find are related to accomplishments. "Hideout", "View Achievements", "Write a Message", "View Team of ..."
 

Note - I play this game via Facebook "Gameroom" and sometimes via "Facebook" itself.
I am not on any "pay for" sites, nor will I be. I prefer my casual games to be free.

It's still not htere. Only the 4 icons I'm used to seeing.

Hmm.
Interesting. I cannot find the Friend button. It is simply not there.
Oh, well. Guess I'll just not use up my remaining batteries.

It is not a button, it is a checkbox.

Ok. Does it magically appear if one hovers over that are? Or is it already there to see?

No, you should be able to see it.

You could submit a support ticket to see if they could help.

 

Also, are you on a team?  That should not make a difference, but maybe it could.  Your teammates should all automatically be your friends.

Hello!

To see the option to add a friend, you must first make your friend list visible.

Settings -> Game -> Show friends list

Then visit someone's character and the add to friends button will be in place.

Ok. That was fixed easily.

Now one more question: Do I have to be completely out of Batteries in order to request them from my new friends?

You do not need to be out of batteries - even if you just used one of them, you can ask for new.
